Danner Campground - Allegheny River
Meeting at 11am at the put-in at Fisherman's Cove. 724-601-9801 if needed
Fisherman's Cove to Kennerdell over-nighter: Saturday & Sunday, Nov 2 & 3 ... a short float of about 4 miles from the Cove down to the Danner Campground, where we will camp overnight, then in the morning continue on about another 2 miles to the take-out at Kennerdell. At Danner there are pit toilets, fire rings with grill grates, picnic tables, and a non-potable spring. There were some questions about Kennerdell: I spoke with the lady who lives adjacent to the launch, and she reported that it would be fine to use the launch, despite the road signs. She even pointed out where to park; was very nice about it, in fact. This trip will be dependent upon weather... no rain and no extreme temps. This is a short trip, as we won't have all that much daylight. All should be prepared for conditions and the night in the wilderness. I will post times and meeting location as the date gets nearer. Please start to RSVP, to help facilitate those plans.

Danner Campground
I plan to make this trip. Depending on who all goes, it might be a thought to leave one vehicle at Danner. "Just in case" leaving one less thing for murphy.

Danner is hike-in or canoe-in only. When I was up there a couple weeks ago, the gate to the access road was open "for the season" at the end of the Kennerdell Bridge. You could only go as far as Dennison Run, where there was a second gate that was still closed. That was about a mile back in, still leaving about a mile to the camp area. And I'm not sure if DCNR would give a hassle about leaving a car there if they catch ya. And the road was narrow and rough, and a couple areas were sliding towards the river. Could be a two mile walk-out w/o car or one mile w/ car. Should somebody carnage before making camp, it would be a team decision as to what to do; recover if possible, dry off, and camp ... or skip camp and continue to the take-out, and live to play another day.

Danner
OK. I saw somewhere that it was supposed to have a parking lot with camping beyond a blocking row of stones. This reminded mr of the Clarion and camping in the Alleghemy Forest.
I may have gotten bad intel when I checked.

Whatever prep you think is prudent for a cold night in the woods. We're still trying to figure out exactly what that will mean for us. Luck to us all.

Looking like favorable weather for trip. When are we meeting at Fisherman's Cove?
We may be able to lesson our loads or at least eat a little better on a brisk Fall adventure if anyone is interested in some coordination to reduce redundancies of people packing duplicate items in limited cargo holds. Ex: Stan discussed bringing griddle so I said I would bring bacon for breakfast. Just throwing it out there in case anyone has any ideas or plans to bring something that could benefit others. I am packing 2-3 lbs bacon for the group and will attempt to pack 1 dozen eggs if they survive the transport - otherwise scrambled with shell frags:) |

The weather is looking good! At this point, I have heard from Stan, Bryan, Eric, and Dustin. Jodi and I will both be there as well. (6 souls, unless I hear differently) Plan to meet at the put-in at 11am. I will be leaving a car at the take-out, so no shuttle should be necessary on Saturday. On Sunday, Jodi or I will stay at the take-out while the other drives the rest of yinz back to your cars.
Stan, if you are bringing a griddle, I will bring burgers and buns ... please confirm.
