TCT,
I vaguely recall that paddling instruction was offered several years ago through a school or community college in nearby western Pennsylvania. Does anyone remember the school or the name of the instructor and whether the class(es) are still offered? Thanks. JP |

An excellent class that teaches all the basic maneuvers...
How to recognize rocks. How to hit rocks solidly for the best impact. Spotting strainers and partially submerged logs and... How to get pinned in places that make your paddling companions freak out. A variety of flipping manuvers. Swimming in a shallow rocky current while trapped under a canoe. Cool ways to fill your kayak with water and... Swimming in a strong current filled with submerged logs. How to spot a dangerous, killer low head dam. How to go over a dangerous, killer low head dam (and how to contact the Authorities). Swimming after a cross bow paddle attempt. We'll also cover some other classic maneuvers... Techniques for falling in while entering your boat. The friendly kayak push off the low bank and whether to roll upstream or down. And many more! Class is taught by a long time paddler from Louisville, Oh that has personal experience with most of these techniques. These classes are expensive but worth every penny. website: swimmingwithrocks.com |

Ken,
Please do tell and elaborate! It sounds like there is ample material here to add significantly to the thread from 2010, Most Embarrassing Paddling Experiences. JP |
